WMVC was contacted by Disability Advocates of Kent County regarding an 89-year-old veteran who had been unable to do laundry for more than a month. His washing machine was broken and his dryer was unsafe to use due to a leak in the gas line. Through our Military Family Assistance Fund, we were able to purchase a new washer and dryer for the veteran.

After the new machines were delivered, WMVC found out that his dryer was venting into his crawl space, creating a moist environment for mold growth. We followed up with Disability Advocates, who connected the veteran with an organization to remedy the issue.

WMVC was approached by Community Rebuilders concerning a veteran who needed help eradicating bed bugs at his rental property. Previous attempts at chemical treatment had failed, and the infestation was so severe that his children were unable to sleep and his daughter was hospitalized for five weeks due to complications from bites. However, the veteran’s family was unable to afford the necessary pest control services.

WMVC provided financial assistance to cover a portion of the cost, and Community Rebuilders was able to obtain the remaining amount through other organizations.
